The partnership between Ras-Gaint Farmers Cooperative Union and 2SCALE aims to diversify the beans market by engaging in domestic Shiro processing. To achieve this, the business champion aspires to integrate semi-automated bean-based Shiro processing. This will not only create vibrant local demand for the produce of small-holder farmers, but it will also avail affordable nutritious bean-based Shiro to low-income consumers.

About the business champion

The Ras-Gaint Farmers Cooperative Union is the grassroots champion leading this partnership. The union is in the city of Nefas Mewcha town in Amhara state. It is mainly involved in the trade of beans, supply of agricultural inputs and industrial products, and capacity building of small farmers. The union is the only market destination for the beans produced by smallholder farmers and it is mainly engaged in the export of these product.
