Poultry farming is an important source of nutrition and income generation (especially for women) for lower-income, rural Malians. Therefore, the company Wasaso wants to increase its production and marketing capacity to sell more (improved) local breed chicks.
The aim of the partnership is to grow the supply of chicken meat to meet the significant demand of mainly urban populations in Bamako, Kati and Koulikoro, who have a preference for poultry meat from local varieties. Wasaso, the business champion, wants to contribute to this through the production of more resistant chicks and the provision of various advisory services to farmers to improve their productivity. Wasaso sells the (vaccinated) chicks to poultry farmers who further grow the chicks. Wasaso then buys the chickens back from the farmers for slaughter and sells the meat to wholesalers. This partnership aims to strengthen Wasaso's model, productivity of farmers and develop a strong collaborative network between Wasaso, farmers and other relevant actors.
