About the partnership

Ethiopia
Staple Crops

The aim of this partnership with East African Tiger Brands Industry (EATBI) is to develop a nutritious consumer food product, especially focusing on malnutrition with children. In Ethiopia, only 4.2% of breastfed children of 6–23 months of age have a minimum acceptable diet. To address the complex challenges of malnutrition with children in a sustainable way, public and private sector partnerships are required. The collaboration between EATBI and 2SCALE will focus first on new product development, based on the current production of Corn Soy Blend (CSB) that the company is producing for the relief markets. Next to product development and marketing & distribution to BoP markets, this partnership will also focus on local sourcing of raw materials with smallholder farmers, mostly focusing on maize.

About the business champion
East African Tiger Brands Industry PLC (EATBI) is a food processing company. Though this company is an independently registered private company, it can also be refereed as a sister (subsidiary) company that is further accountable to its big umbrella company known as East African Holdings S.C. (EAH). EATBI was established in the year 2017 with its manufacturing facilities located at Dukem town, about 40km west of Addis Ababa. Under one of its factory unit, EATBI operates the production of supplementary food known as corn soy blend plus (CSB+).
