Nigeria is the highest cassava producing and consuming country in the world, producing 59 million tons of roots in 2017 and accounting for one-fifth of the Worlds production. It is a common staple meal in Nigeria with products such as garri, fufu, etc, most of which are the key sources of carbohydrates for many Nigerian families.
The partnership between Cato foods and 2SCALE aims to make Biofortified vitamin A cassava (BVAC) processed products known, affordable and accessible to Base of Pyramid (BoP) consumers. It has a keen focus to provide increased Vitamin A intake to children and women.
Bio-fortified cassava contains significantly better nutritional quality, contributing to improved public health. This partnership also focuses on increasing the awareness of BVAC consumption among BoP consumers and connecting smallholder farmers into the Cato Foods supply chain to increase the farm production of BVAC.
