The partnership seeks to accelerate the development of an inclusive cassava value chain that contributes to the production of high-quality products.  It is driven by market demand and increases the voice and capacity of  the business champion-Promise Point General Trading Company to contribute to sector-level decision-making processes. Promise Point wants to offer a guaranteed market for smallholder farmers by targeting two market channels; one for food-grade starch and high-quality flour to supply to secondary processors such as Unilever and Cadbury; the other offering nutritious vitamin A bio-fortified gari, a typical West-African cassava product, targeting to reach 20,000 BoP consumers.

About the business champion

Promise Point Limited is an emerging medium-sized agribusiness company in the cassava value chain, operating in and around Ekiti state in Nigeria. The business focus is to process cassava roots into 3 main products namely cassava starch, high-quality cassava flour, and gari, targeting two different markets that include supply to secondary starch and flour processors and gari for Base of Pyramid consumers.

Inclusion of small holder cassava producers into Promise Point’s supply chain
Improving the capacity of Promise Point in leadership and decision-making process at sector level
Improving access to nutritious food for BoP consumers
Broker linkages between the business champion and intermediary product off-takers
Improve marketing & uptake of vitamin A biofortified gari for BoP consumers
Develop (off-farm) employment opportunities, especially for women, on factory site and in marketing

250 micro-small and medium enterprises involved
300 producer organizations involved
€ 1.01 million private sector co-investment
20,000 BoP consumers with better access to nutritious food
