About the partnership

Ethiopia
Staple Crops

This partnership seeks to set-up a sustainable and consistent Teff value chain by establishing a direct supply of 1,650 tons of Teff grain from smallholder farmers per year. The plan is to provide quality Enjera at an affordable price for around 20,000 BoP consumers at the base of the pyramid. In addition, the business champion aims to employ 50 additional women in Enjera baking.

About the business champion

ASTU ENJERA is the pioneer company in the commercialization of Ethiopia’s main staple food, Enjera. It is the first large-scale business that capitalized on this opportunity. ASTU has always prioritized the production of quality Enjera made 100% from TEFF for the mass consumer market in Ethiopian, preserving the traditional heritage. This is also reflected in the unwavering commitment to providing healthy and nutritious Enjera products, produced, and delivered in an Ethical manner. However, the higher price of the ingredient (TEFF), has become an increasing challenge since it generates a higher final price for the consumer.
