In South Sudan, demand for maize far exceeds demand leading to huge imports of the commodity. Kanybek Company Limited, with the support of 2SCALE, aims to expand maize production in order to maximize opportunities based on the huge demand in the market while reducing dependency on imported maize products from neighboring countries. 2SCALE will support Kanybek Company Limited and other value chain stakeholders develop strong and mutually beneficial relationships to meet the demand for maize.

Additionally, Kanybek will also venture into the development of nutritious and affordable value-added maize products in South Sudan in the next two years.

About the business champion

Kanybek is an agribusiness Company which started operations in 1998 in Renk, in the Upper Nile State Northern bordering Sudan. Kanybek was registered in 2014 as a legal entity under the ministry of Justice and established its head office in Juba. At the time, the company mainly focused on cultivating maize, sorghum, and cassava in a farm of approximately 28 hectares. In 2007 Kanybek expanded its operations to Malakal and also introduced bakery business as a new business portfolio in Malakal and Bor (Jonglei State). Following the success of the bakery business, Kanybek decided to open another branch in Juba (Central Equatoria State). In addition, they also offer services to farmers to help them improve their productivity and supply more maize for processing.
