About the partnership

ARM is a large manufacturer of cement, lime, industrial minerals, sodium silicate, formulated fertilizers and special building products in Eastern and Southern Africa. The partnership has introduced urea super granules fertilizer briquettes (through support to Afritech and cooperatives) and FDP/ UDP applicators to increase yields per unit area. It has also introduced extension services to the farmers and access to affordable farm inputs. In addition, this the partnership seeks to enable farmers to access market, financial services through formal farmers groups.

Blending of soil and crop specific fertilizers packaged in affordable 1 kg packets
Training in GAP’s and financial literacy
Linking farmers to (hybrid) seeds, and high value onion as a rotational crop
Investment in briquette making machine, and production/ distribution of briquettes applicators
Promote use of high energy charcoal briquettes, made from rice straw
Targets:
This partnership aims to improve rice production/ productivity for 5,000 smallholder farmers (1,000 women), by providing access to blended fertilizers, through local sourcing of Urea super granules and adoption of fertilizer deep placement (FDP) technology, and by improving processing/ distribution systems. The partnership aims to involve 10 SMEs of which 2 are female-headed.
