About the partnership

The partnership aims to open up new market opportunities for vegetable farmers during the off-seasons, and thus to substitute imports by local products. 2SCALE is interested because it involves a large number of SHFs, including women, women traders. The partnership will contribute to a stronger (cleaner!) and more diversified vegetable sector, which is critical for food security.

Achievements

Build the technical capacity of farmers (productivity and quality) through learning plots and support to off-season production

Establish 3 learning centers in Western, Eastern and Central regions

Set up a SSP scheme (partnership CropLife)

Expand the seed distribution network and register varieties (EWIT)

Train farmers in post- harvest handling and packaging

Facilitate access to finance for farmers and SMEs

Support POs in cost/benefit analysis, business planning, and negotiation

Support networks, including with the World Chefs Association

Targets:

The partnership aims to help 17,000 smallholder farmers (6,000 women) produce tomato and onion during off-seasons, to substitute imports from Burkina Faso, Togo and Niger. The partnership aims to involve 250 SMEs of which 45 are female-headed.
