About the partnership

East West Seed offers high-quality seeds of varieties suited for smallholder production in tropical environments. The partnership aims to strengthen the vegetable sector, in particular for onions, by improving farmers’ access to quality seeds and by strengthening marketing and distribution channels to consumer markets.

Achievements

Through demonstrations, training and technical support, strengthen technical capacity of farmers and improve yields and quality

Strengthen linkages among farmers, traders, input suppliers and financial institutions

Expand the seed distribution network, facilitate registration of EWIT varieties

Support post-harvest management of fresh produce

Targets:

Involve 15,000 smallholder farmers (9,000 women) and 100 small and medium enterprises (80 women-led) by 2017.

Market Segments:

Onions and fresh vegetables for open market outlets and for processing company Bara Muso, which produces seasoning cubes.
