The partnership between Chico Meat Ethiopia (CME) and 2SCALE aims to reach more than 30,000 Urban Base of Pyramid (BoP) consumers with a consistent supply of quality chicken at competitive prices. In addition, it aims to harmonize the local supply of quality chicken to Ethiopian Institutions. This will be achieved mainly by marketing CME's chicken products to urban low-income consumers. To achieve a consistent supply, smallholder poultry farmers will be empowered to produce quality chicken. In addition, MSMEs will be linked as out-grower supply networks to ensure adequate quantity and quality poultry production.

About the Business Champion

Chico Meat Ethiopia (CME) is an Ethiopian company with Dutch roots established in 2015. It is located in Denkaka (Bishoftu) and sources chicken from local broiler farmers. CME processes high-quality chicken to substitute the importation of chicken into Ethiopia. It has a keen focus on food safety and quality standards from production to consumption. CME wants to expand its market and market share beyond Addis Ababa to reach low-income consumers from different parts of the country.
